Because I don't have many Chinese friends in Oxford and I hate Valentine's Day!
It's a marketing ploy where everything costs 3 times as much as usual. If you want to buy chocolate/flowers for your partner, or take them out for dinner, don't do it on the day when everyone else is doing it too!
