Arian Llyr

Here's another of my RPG characters. I really love this one. She was so much fun to play.

Basically, she's a thief, passing herself off as a ranger (she would pretend to make berries like rangers do, using sleight-of-hand). Most other players were not aware of this, so she was always lying to them, cheating their money for this and that charitable causes.

The thing is, I can't bring myself to lie in real life (really!) and so it was refreshing to be able to lie through her. It was exhilarating, hilarious, lying to people, cheating them, outsmarting them, I guess that's how compulsive liars feel. It's a kind of adrenaline.

And she's so bratty, so selfish, spoilt, it was just sheer indulgence playing her. But because she was cute, and played by a 'real girl' (me), she got lotsa attention from other male players who just kept losing their coins to her.

I should make a website for her someday. She has the most hilarious game logs. Particularly when she's pretending to be a ranger, and yet hating the insects, dirt, and mud of the forest.

LONG DESC:
You see a young woman with short dark hair carelessly trimmed to chin-length, its ends curling out in unruly wisps. Her face is wide and comely with a perky nose and a resolute mouth. Drawing your attention are her emerald green eyes, like those of a black cat's, as she observes her surroundings with a calculating acuteness. She carries her lithe, petite body with a regal haughtiness that suggests she may have been brought up in affluence, although the dirt and bruises on her tell of a rough life.

PARENTS: Arthur & Larina Llyr

BACKGROUND:
Arian Llyr was the only child of a well-off Palanthas merchant and landowner. Her father was the descendant of an important family that had prospered in Palanthas for generations. She grew up in their family house where she was doted on by her father, being the only child. In her childhood, she had all her needs met and hardly had to make a decision for herself. And so, she became a haughty and pampered, delicate and dependent child.

When her father died from a road accident shortly after her 17th birthday, her life changed drastically. She was left with her mother, whom she was never really close to. Her mother was a vain and materialistic woman, a servant's daughter with extraordinary beauty who had married her father for money. Arian's father soon found out after the marriage what a selfish person her mother was and had started to treat her coldly since. The estrangement continued after Arian was born, and so the child, who was always by her father's side, learned to distance herself from her mother too.

The silly woman, Arian's mother, with the wealth she had inherited from her husband's death (Arian was still under aged to claim her share) soon remarried a common rogue. Together the duo squandered the family fortune (including Arian's share) in their indulgence and gambling escapades. Eventually to Arian's dismay, they had to sell the family house and move into a small house at a sleazy part of town.

All this while, Arian could only watch on in shock and horror, disbelieving the things that were happening to her home. When the family house was sold, that was the last straw that finally jolted her awake from the stupor of her pampered upbringing. She had to make decisions for herself, and find the strength and courage within her to get what she needed. She ran away from home.

It took great effort for her to adjust herself to her surroundings when she first ran away from home. She was fearful and aware of her own vulnerability in the big world out there, all by herself, penniless and fatherless. She had to forego the luxury she was used to, and had to swallow her pride on many occasions. The streets orphans that she had joined when she first ran away from home gave her a hard time because of her haughty attitude. She was beaten up by some of them more than once. However, she managed to struggle through the hardships, and proved to be clever, quick to learn, adaptable, gutsy, and strong-willed.

After she has learned all the rogue skills she could from the streets orphans, she decided it was better for her to leave them and to find alternate means of amassing wealth. Pick pocketing is a slow way of amassing the kind of wealth she needs. And so, she decided to strike out on her own in the world out there.

She has one goal in her life, and on that she has focussed all her strong will and energy. That is to amass enough wealth to buy back her family house. To her, the family house signified all the happiness of her childhood, and most important of all, memories of the father she loves dearly. It is a quest to restore her father's name. For that purpose, she has vowed to do anything and compromise anything in order to get the family house back.

PERSONALITY:
Deep down inside, she is still the frightened little girl she once was. But because of her strong desire to restore the family house, she has willed herself to be courageous and adaptable in order to achieve her goals. Occasionally she still wrinkles her nose at the filth of poverty, but she would force herself to adapt in whatever way is needed. In the same way that she would abandon her pride when needed, she would also abandon her morals.

She still retains some of the habits from her childhood, for instance, she has a bad temper, and can be bratty and willful at times. But as mentioned above, she would suppress all these inclinations if they should hinder with her goal.

Her days of the streets have taught her to be distrusting of others, and to be stealthy in her ways. She has also learned to lie when needed. She would not easily let other people know of her plans or even just to know her better. That makes her a reserved person at times. There is a playful side to her; she does enjoy having fun with people and socializing, even though she often has to restrain herself for caution's sake.

Dedication to her goal has made her calculating and mercenary. She will not waste her time and energy on things that do not contribute to the achievement of her goal, and she is in constant look out for ways to get nearer to her goal.
