Muir Darksea

I have gone to bed, but couldn't sleep because I was thinking of my old RPG characters. So I thought I would blog about them here. It's odd how obsessed I am with those characters, or maybe not so odd, since this phenomenon has been commonly observed among other RPG players too (most of them much younger than me tho). It's like some alter form of narcissism.

A couple years ago I used to play actively on a Dragonlance MUD. That's when I had these characters.

My first main character was Muir Darksea. She's an evil mage who is evil not in a mwahaha way, but in a subtle way. Well, maybe too subtle because everyone said I played her too nice, and that I couldn't pull off an evil character. Not sure whether that was compliment or criticism. She was quite well-liked, since she's such a do-gooder, and has never fragged any other player, she's only fragged the MOBs. I felt uncomfortable about attacking other players.. isn't that kind of rude?

She has her own homepage too, at http://muir.victoriac.net

Here's her character profile:

RACE: Half-Elf
CLASS: Mage
AGE: Young adult
APPEARANCE: Red hair, dark eyes.
ALIGNMENT: Neutral Evil

LONG DESC:
You see a tall female half-elf with blazing red hair. She carries herself with the grace of careless insouciance, and wears an amused smile on her face as if she has a private joke on her mind. It is only after a while that you notice the smell of death that lingers incongruously after her, and that her eyes are black like the night sea.

BACKGROUND:
Her parents are unknown (prob born out of either illicit affair or rape, maybe between qualinesti elf in abanasinia and solamnic human from solamnia?), and she was abandoned while a baby. It is said that the cradle which she was abandoned in had drifted from the river to the seas, to the shores of Schallsea, where she eventually grew up rather independently with only occasional help from the barbarians.

The barbarians dared not directly bring her up, for they believed that there was something evil about the strange baby who came from the night sea in a cradle smeared with blood. But because of the kindness in their hearts for the vulberable baby, they tried to help her when they could, though they avoided contact with her. When she was still a baby they would feed her but even then, they never took her to their homes. All these kindness stopped as soon as she learned to walk.

SOCIAL
She has a warm cheerful personality, but because of the solitude and harsh environment she has grown up in, she has little empathy for other people, and has a strong selfish instinct for self-preservation.

She is curious about other people in general, and can appear friendly with them, but innately she has no respect for their autonomy, and treats them as a child would treat his toys, carelessly and heartlessly, not truly respecting them nor caring if they get hurt.

CLASS
She's always been talented in magery, and even as an untaught child, could do a few tricks on her own. One day when she was 14, an accomplished Mage discovered her talent and trained her. Having grown up in a land haunted by the undead, she is naturallly drawn to necromancy and the dark Arts.

STRENGTH

  • bold, not easily frightened
  • strong self-preservation instinct
  • Adaptable and flexible
  • independent
  • intelligent
  • talented in magery

WEAKNESSES

  • Can't keep friends for long
  • Sometimes tactless and unaccustomed to social ettiquette
  • loses her way easily in cities and towns, being unaccustomed to them
  • eats like a barbarian :)
  • smells of death and decay which might put some people off?

MOTIVATION
She has a strong sense of curiosity about the rest of humanity and society. A keen mind interested in learning and exploration brings her to the shores of other lands.

She is not inherently evil, but is only branded so because of her self-centered attitude (solitude induced), and her lack of a sense of morality. Being untaught about the good and evil of the world, she has no qualms about doing evil deeds, which is what she does when she practices her dark arts.

She feels at home and at ease with darkness and death, having grown up surrounded by them.
